Marathon to Build a Classroom at Namelok School in Maasailand

BeSomeone is offering runners the chance to not only run on the base of prestigious Kilimanjaro but also take part in what you are raising funds and help us construct the classroom for Namelok School.

There are many opportunities to volunteer abroad, but there are few hands on projects that promote a meaningful exchange like BeSomeone. Find out about our school and our program here!

ABOUT THE MARATHON:

The route passes through many small farms, villages, banana and coffee plantations and patches of forest, providing great excitement to the residents who give ample vocal support.

The atmosphere in the stadium is electric with local bands playing, entertainment, crowds of local enthusiasts to cheer the runners, and lots of food and drink for sale.

The race is completely backed up, and manned by local organizations. Crowd control and traffic control are provided for, as is medical assistance and communications.

Official timekeeping is arranged, as is an official prize giving and function attended by local dignitaries.

SPACES WILL BE LIMITED TO 9 RUNNING VOLUNTEERs.

From the stadium, the route is a fairly flat 10km returning on same road back past the stadium gate – the Full is 30 minutes behind the half, on the same route which is described below.

HALF MARATHON

Starts 0700, outside of the college gate, and turns north, towards the mountain. Uphill, about a 250 altitude gain in 8 km. At about 8 km, the route follows a dirt road for about 2 km, though some farms and schools, before the long downhill back to the stadium.

Note – there are water points and sponge points amply supplied along this route.
